Gamal Baroud, PhD

President and Chief Technology Officer

Founder of Skeltex, professor at the University of Sherbrooke and a Canada Research Chair in Skeletal Reconstruction, Dr Baroud is an acknowledged key opinion leader (KOL) in the field and has developed a research initiative funded by the Canada Research Chair and the Canadian Institute of Health Research with the focus on overcoming existing clinical limitations of vertebroplasty, a surgical procedure where bone cement is injected percutaneously into a fractured vertebra with the goal of relieving the pain of compression fractures. The knowledge and science gained during the research process has been at the heart of Skeltex’ mission to bring consistency, simplicity and control (therefore safety) to vertebroplasty.  Dr Baroud holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Aachen University of Applied Science as well as a Master and PhD from the University of Technology of Chemnitz.

 

Robert Mitchell,

Patent agent, retired partner at Ogilvy Renault (45 years)
 
Mr Mitchell joined the firm of Alan Swabey & Co. in 1963, where he eventually became a senior partner and was on the management committee. Swabey, Mitchell, Houle, Marcoux, & Sher eventually formed a partnership with the law firm of Ogilvy Renault in 1989 to become Swabey Ogilvy Renault. The two firms were merged in 2000 and where he was co-chair of the Intellectual Property Group, one of the largest in Canada and on the Executive Committee of the firm. In addition to being a very active member of AIPPI (International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property) where he is a Member of Honour, he was also an active member of other professional organizations such as the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) where he is a past president and Honorary Member as well as the Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Industrielle (FICPI). He is a past president of the Canadian Group of this organization. He is also an author of several published papers on intellectual property and is the co-author of the History of the Patent Profession in Canada.

 

Diane Marceau

Operations and development Manager

Ms. Marceau has evolved in the medical industry since 1995.  After 4 years in the pharmaceutical industry, she moved to a medical device startup company producing catheter-based products for the cryotherapeutic treatment of cardiovascular disease.  At Cryocath, she progressed from operator to supervisory and production technical support roles (including operator training, purchasing and quality control) before joining Andromed in 2002 as the Quality Control Director and rapidly Operations Director.
